 Mentoring can be defined as a process that enables a wide range of learning and improving oneself through relationship with another more experienced person. In other words, it is a relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person. The mentor may be older or younger, but have a certain area of expertise. It is a learning and development partnership between someone with vast experience and someone who wants to learn. Mentor-ship experience and relationship structure affect the men-tee positively in behavior and attitude.

There is no age barrier in mentoring. Everyone needs mentoring at one stage in life or the other. It can be termed as an instrument that boosts one's hope for living. Mentor-ship is not a monopoly of teachers or counselors as is wrongly conceived. In offices, a junior staff can mentor a senior staff and vice versa. It may sound odd to hear that a grown up child can mentor his or her parents. This depends on the wealth of experience or knowledge the grown up child has. In other words, the child's exposure.
