Buhari Appoints New Registrar for NECO
The timetable and guidelines for 2020 National Examinations Council (NECO) were released last week. This was announced by Professor Godswill Obioma, NECO Registrar/ Chief Executive during a press conference in Minna. The theme of the briefing is " Making the Conduct of Public Examinations Work in the COVID-19 Era". The Minister of State for Education had earlier announced that NECO examination would commence on October 5 and end on November 18, 2020.

All the senior secondary 3 students, parents and guardians, heads of schools and examination officers are expected to visit the website below for more detailed information:

Students have been at home for five months due to the pandemic lock down. This was the health safety decision taken by all the countries of the world, Nigeria inclusive. The World Health Organization, ordered that there be lockdown  in schools, market places, offices, public places in addition to wearing of face masks, social distancing and regular washing of hands to help curtail the spread of the corona virus and mass deaths caused by the pandemic. Students were sent home compulsorily at the shortest notice. Some of the schools, both public and private were about to start their examinations at that period.

NECO, being a national examination body in Nigeria had to follow suite.  All examinations by this body were therefore postponed indefinitely. As the lock down has eased out to some extent, students have to come back and restart where they stopped. Despite the fear that students would not perform well after the long stay at home, NECO examinations starts in a few weeks from now.
